Q: What do I need to do to prepare for the installation?
A: Move any furnishings away from the window area and take down any window coverings, both internally and externally (blinds, curtains, and venetians – including all tracks and fittings). Also consider outside the windows, including furniture and pot plants. We are able to complete this preparation for you, at an additional charge. Please discuss this with us well prior to commencement. As we need to unload work tools from our vehicle, we ask you to remove all vehicles from the driveway prior to us arriving. This allows us to unload and operate in a safe and efficient way. If you have any undercover areas (carport, garage or other dry areas) these would be handy to work from, especially in inclement weather.
Q: How long will the total installation take?
A: The average house has a lot of windows (12) takes three days but this depends on the degree of difficulty, weather and work areas. Jobs will normally start at 7:30am.
Q: How long will my house be open to the weather without windows?
A: We remove each window individually and replace it with the new window. This usually takes 1–3 hours per window.
Q: What damage should I expect from the installation?
A: There should be no damage, but while extreme care is taken, we cannot be held responsible for damage, unless it is clearly neglectful. We place drop sheets on the immediate area, but as there is fine dust that has gathered within your walls, we ask you to place sheets over anything you don’t want dust to lane on. (Light bed sheets are good for this) We clean up the majority of dirt, dust and any rubbish but, as it is a major renovation to your house we do recommend a clean of any areas we have worked in.
Q: Do I have to be home for the installation?
A: We understand that most people have commitments during the day and therefore it makes it difficult for someone to be home. An empty house is an easier environment to work in and, if so, arrangements for keys and access will be made prior to commencement. The house will be left in a clean and secure state when we finish.
For safety, and more importantly, OH&S standards, we request that any activity in the work area be kept to an absolute minimum. Children and pets MUST be kept well away and out of the work area. We also mention that we require no assistance throughout the work period.
Q: What happens to the old windows and rubbish?
A: We are happy to remove all old windows and rubbish from your premises at an additional charge. But if you prefer to retain the old windows, we can place them in a neat manner for your disposal.
Q: How do I clean my new windows?
A: All windows should be cleaned with soft cloths and non-abrasive cleaners regularly.
- Aluminium Windows:
As a general rule, they should be cleaned every six months. However, in areas where pollutants are more prevalent, especially in coastal or industrial regions, cleaning should be more frequent.
To clean the powder-coated area:
- Carefully remove any loose deposits with a wet sponge.
- Use a soft brush (non-abrasive) or cloth, and a mild detergent solution to remove dust, salt or other deposits.
- Rinse off with clean fresh water.
- Detergents that recommend the use of gloves when handling should be avoided. If paint splashes, sealants or other residue needs to be removed, use Methylated Spirits, Turpentine or White Spirits immediately.
- Timber Windows:
To clean the glass, please refer to above. For timber frames, architraves etc, timber will need to be sealed prior to cleaning. Timber will stain if left untreated.
Note: If you choose sliding windows, you may sometimes notice water in the tracks on the inside of your windows. This is not a problem, or a fault, of window design but a result of water coming through the fly screen. The water then falls into these tracks and runs out the external vents, which are in the tracks. This is normal for most brands of sliding windows. Once the installation is complete, there may a small amount of vacuuming, painting and general cleaning to be done. A brief explanation regarding flyscreens and locks will be given at the completion of the job.
